Cystitis and good hygiene – where is the limit and when do we overdo it?

Maintaining good intimate hygiene is extremely important for women. Taking good care of this delicate area helps prevent inflammation, infections, unpleasant odors and is certainly one of the ways to prevent cystitis and urinary tract infections. Are there cases, however, in which we can overdo the hygiene? And what could this lead to?

Diet for cystitis

Cystitis occurs more often in women than in men (yes, men also suffer from cystitis), due to some anatomical features – the urinary tract of ladies is much shorter, which facilitates the penetration of bacteria. Cystitis is mainly caused by bacteria, and in most cases it is the bacterium E. coli. However, cystitis can also develop from taking certain drugs (mostly those that weaken our immune system), during radiation treatment in the pelvic area (radiation kills cancer cells, but also damages some healthy cells of the mucosa) , in the presence of a foreign body (for example, a catheter in which bacteria enter mechanically), as a complication of diabetes and others.
